NYFW Edit: Top Five Trends

By Ashley Urban

The most exciting part of every NYFW is seeing what course fall fashion will take in the upcoming year. At Shop2 we scoured through every single show and found the top five trends for Fall 2013 and they are: smart plaid, black and white ensembles, sheer paneling, cobalt blue, and oxblood red.

Smart plaids were present at many of the shows and are an easy way to transition your wardrobe from summer to fall seamlessly. This upcoming fall the new way to wear on an old classic is going to be the height of chic.

Looks from: Rag &Bone, Elizabeth and James, Holmes & Yang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Karen Walker, and Proenza Schouler. Image here.

All black and white ensembles were seen in almost every collection at fashion week. Not a day went by without a stunning black and white outfit coming down the runway. Gone is the rule about not wearing white after Labor Day (even pants). In order to keep this look current through fall and winter, make sure you are shopping for heavier fabrics or fabrics with a little texture or sheen.

Sheer paneling incorporated into dresses and tops are a surefire way to make your look a little more daring. This fashion week featured many ensembles with sheer paneling like we have never seen before, but hope we see again for many seasons to come.

Looks from Thakoon, Alexander Wang, Marchesa, Rodarte, Jason Wu, Catherine Malandrino, BCBG Max Azria, and Pierre Balmain. Image here.

Fashion week always has standout colors and this year the colors are cobalt blue and oxblood red. Cobalt was a surprising change from the blacks, greys, and navys of the season and can be best worn as a pop of color to take an outfit to the next level. Oxblood red is more easily worn as an entire ensemble, and the standout items in this color were definitely jackets and dresses.

Happy Valentines Day from SHOP2!

Happy Valentines day and Happy Adventure!image

We all know that the colors for today are red, pink and white. It’s practically a crime if you are out today smiling and being lovey if you are not wearing any of the three requisite colors. And while that may be the case, some may criticize you if you choose to wear pink with red, as it has been quite controversial (like combining black and navy) to pair the two together. As if they clash, or something.

So, instead of asking you what your plans are for tonight, or even what you are going to wear out with your sweetie, we want to know if you are adventurous enough to wear red, pink and white together?

If you are thinking like the average person, you might say to yourself ‘who could really pull this off?’

Spotted on the streets is a great demonstration as to perfectly incorporate all three colors into an outfit that is both casual, modern and tasteful.

ONE THING TO BUY ONLINE THIS SEASON

Can you guess what it is? If there was one thing that is best bought online for women, what do you think it would be?

Now that Christmas is over (and returns are being made of shirts that don’t fit or that are in the wrong color), we may want to think of what items are best purchased online and for what reasons— especially since New Years Eve and Valentines Day are just around the corner.

Holli Rogers, the Fashion Director of Net-A-Porter says that jewlery is best purchased online. And we can think of a few reasons why!

Black on Brass by Realia by Jen

First, woman love jewelry. Also, what you see is what you get— there is a small margin of error when it comes to sizing (with the exception of rings, which we would recommend that you know her size!). Jewelry is also that thing that women rarely purchase for themselves so you can be certain that your gift will be original.

Mikimoto ‘Baroque’ Black South Sea Pearl Diamond Earrings

Whether it’s black pearl earrings or a huge embellished gold cuff, it’s almost always more special when it’s given as a gift, which pretty much makes it fail-proof.
